I'm trying to get back my menubars on the desktop of Word 2000. Lately I
came back at work and my bars were disappeared and nobody knows how to get
it back. The only thing I get is a field in where I can load my document and
nothing else.  No file menu and so on. How can I get it back while I tried
all the functionkeys and more but nothing helps. Please somebody who knows
how to deal with it help me.

OK this (http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm) worked
fine - I now have menus back (Word 97) The saddest bit about this is that
=completely= removing and reinstalling the complete Office 97 DOESN'T
achieve the same thing as deleting this (the data key) registry item.

Really really really sloppy programming - whoever wrote that bit of the
install software should be shot - slowly...

No, this is by design. Word preserves your custom settings (Normal.dot and
Registry settings) when you install a new version over an old one or
reinstall Word; most users don't want to lose their customizations on a
reinstall. In order to completely uninstall Word you have to use one of the
"eraser" utilities that clears out all Registry entries.

if you are using word XP then change 10.0
perform the steps and you will get back your menus.
1.    Click on Start --> Run and type "regedit"
(without quotes) and click OK
2.    Once the registry editor opens up, please search
for HKEY_CURRENT_USER and click on the plus sign beside
it.
3.    Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER you have a
folder "Software" please click on the plus sign beside it.
4.    Under "Software" you have a folder "Microsoft",
please click on the plus sign beside it.
5.    Under "Microsoft" you have a folder "Office",
please click on the plus sign beside it.
6.    Under "Office" you have a folder "9.0", please
click on the plus sign beside it.
7.    Under "9.0" you have a folder "Word", please
click on the plus sign beside it.
8.    In the word folder you have two folders Data and
options, I request you to rename the folders "Data" to
Data1 and "Options" to "Options1" and close the window.
