Missing "File" option from Menu bar

My new copy of MS Word 2000 for XP does not have a "File"
on the menu bar, it starts with "Edit".  I tried to email
Microsoft but it says that my registration number has
used up all its enquiries, when I have never ever made an
enquiry.

Can someone please help me figure out how to get
the "file" options back in Word?

Tabitha,

If it is a new installation, you probably haven't made any customizations to
your menus yet.  try View>Toolbars>Customize>Toolbars>Reset.

If that doesn't work, try View>Toolbars>Customize>.  In the Categories
window select "built in menus" in the commands window select and drag the
file menu to your menu bar.
