I want to include the filename and path in the docuemnt
footer for each document I create.  I have tried to amend
normal.dot but it doesn't update the information when you
open a new docuemnt.  It works ok in Word 2000 but not in
XP.  Anyone got any ideas?  Is this a bug and if so, is
there a fix?

Putting the FILENAME field in Normal.dot is a very bad idea to begin with.
You should instead create a custom template for this purpose. The field does
not update automatically but will update at print time, or you can update it
manually using F9.
