Highlighted text printed on a color printer comes out REAL DARK. Is
there any way to make the highlighting less intense - more like a real
highlighter? I'm using Word 97 and an HP 6110xi.
It would be more work, but instead of using highlighting you could apply
shading to the text (Format | Borders and Shading: Apply to: Text). If you
select a light tint of the color chosen, this might be an improvement.

That's working great. I set up macros to apply 40% shading to the
presently selected text in different colors, and assigned the macros
to hot keys. It was some work to get it set up, but it works great
now. Only hassle was that I couldn't figure out a way to assign F1 to
a macro.
Thanks for the suggestion.

You don't want to use F1 for a macro because it's reserved for Help. Pick a
different hotkey.

You can highlight certain words and then do a search for text within the
highlighting. Useful on long documents to limit search results.
