"Edit" missing from toolbar

I'm afraid I accidentally modified my toolbar without
meaning to by clicking on it with my mouse and
accidentally hitting some keyboard key. I'm not certain.
All I know is that two days ago, the "Edit" menu
disappeared from my toolbar. I can NOT get it back, even
though I've tried going through Options in Customize and
resetting my usage data. I've tried checking the Toolbars
option and making sure it shows "Standard" and "Menu Bar."
Nothing brings the "Edit" bar back. I've thought about
using the "Detect and Repair" function but I'm afraid this
will involve reinstalling Word (or even MS Office) and I'd
really, really like to avoid that. Any suggestions?

If you can't drag it back from Tools > Customize > Commands > Built-in Menus
> Edit then something more drastic is called for
See : http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/MissingMenusEtc.htm

Note that Detect and Repair will fix some minor malfunctions - not this
one - and is fairly innocuous in use. It does not involve 're-installing
Word (and that wouldn't fix the problem either).

There are two main areas of responsibility for controlling what happens in
Word - Normal.dot and the registry. Neither are affected by a re-install and
thus a re-install is rarely recommended. This one is a registry issue.
