different chapter titles and specific page numbering

I've got a big document that has several different chapters (or
sections).  I need to be able to have differnet headers for all the
chapters (for example, chapter 1's header is "In the beginning",
chapter 2 is "God created man", etc...).  The way I have it right now,
it maintains the same chapter header throughout, and if I change it in
one chapter or section, it applies the chang throughout as well.  How
can I accomplish this?

Also, the document has specific page numbering... is there a way I can
specify the individual page numbers in the order I specify, but still
have it appear in the footer as a page number?

Assuming that you already have section breaks between each chapter what you
need to do is click on the Same as previous button on the Headers and
Footers toolbar.

A little more explanation:

1. At the bottom of every chapter insert a Continuous
Section Break.  This will split your document into
sections by chapter.

2. On the View menu, choose Header/Footer.

3. On the Header/Footer toolbar, deselect the button that
says "Same As Previous".  This will allow you to have
different Headers for each section (therby each Chapter).

An another idea.

If you use a STYLEREF field referencing the style used for the chapter
titles, you won't need separate headers and you won't need to change
anything if a chapter title changes.

Page numbering is a section property, which means that for each
section you can specify a new starting number and/or a different
numbering format. You can use the Format Page Number button in the
Header/Footer toolbar to make these changes. In order for the page
number to appear in the document, use the Insert Page Number button on
the same toolbar.

In other words, you cannot specify page numbering options for each
page, unless each page is in a separate section, which is unlikely,
because "a page" is not a fixed item in Word; it is determined by the
flow of text. Of course, you can accomplish unique page numbering on a
page-by-page basis by type numbering in -- outside of the header or
footer area! -- but that defeats the purpose of using a word
processor, don't you think?
