How do i start my numbering sequence on the the second
page of my document using the Page X of Y rule? I have a
cover page but dont want that included in the numbering. I
have tried every help solution in word but its not
helping. Using Word 2000. All together i have 10 pages in
my document but want the numbering to start at 1 on the
2nd page, so it reads like Page 1 of 9, Page 2 of 9 and so
forth...
Cheers for any help.

Hi htou. Here is what you need to do:
1. At the bottom of page 1, click on Insert | Breaks | Section break:
Next page. Delete the page break that currently separates pages 1 and
2. Place your cursor in the document somewhere near the bottom of page 2.
2. Click on View | Header and Footer. On the Header and Footer
toolbar, turn off "same as previous" in the header and in the footer.
3. In the page 2 footer, type: PAGE of SECTIONPAGES
4. Highlight the word PAGE and press Ctrl+F9. Highlight the resulting
page number and click on Insert | Page Numbers | Format | Start at: 1.
5. Highlight the word SECTIONPAGES and press Ctrl+F9.
6. Close the page 2 footer.
Finished!

Sorry, step 4 should be:
4. Highlight the word PAGE and press Ctrl+F9. Press Alt+F9 to toggle
off field code display. Highlight the resulting page number and click
on Insert | Page Numbers | Format | Start at: 1.

Somewhere on the first page do Insert/Break, under "Section break
types" select "Next page".
Now go to the header or footer location on the second page where you
want the number to appear. Place the cursor there.
Move the mouse pointer cursor along the Header and Footer bar to the
symbol like an open book. It should identify itself as "Same as
previous". Click it and it should grey out (deselected).
Go to Insert/Page Numbers. Click Format. In the window that opens
select "Start at" and insert 1 in that field.

is a bug in Word that is different in different versions (including
different SRs).
See http://www.addbalance.com/word/pagexofy.htm or

X of Y problems. You may also want to take a look at:
