Outline Numbering Stops Working

Hello,

I am using Word 2002 with Windows XP as my OS.

I have a document with no custom styles.  I have a list
in the document in which I am using the Outline Numbering
feature.  Periodically, the feature stops working.
Meaning when I press TAB to demote an item, it simply
indents the text, but the number or letter does not
demote to a lower level.

Any thoughts on what could be causing this to happen and
what I can do to get it work again?  The only solution I
currently use is to close Word and start it using the /a
in the Run command.

Thanks for any insight you can pass along my way.

Hi Jeff

In Word 2002, Tools | Autocorrect Options | AutoFormat as you Type. Tick Set
left- and first-indent with tabs and backspaces.  If you've never visited
this dialog box before, avoid the temptation to tick anything that isn't
already ticked.

Hope this helps.
