I am having a problem that I have not been able to fix.
In print view, I see:

1.1.1.1     1      Text starts here.....
1.1.1.1     2      More text....
1.1.1.1     3      More text.....

There is a 1.1.1.1 preceeding every numbered line.  At
first I thought it was something to do with the footnote
separator, which somehow had been corrupted and had a
1.1.1.1 -----------------------

I removed this, but the line numbers are still corrupt. I
have tried turning line numbers off, and turning them back
on again.  If I cut+paste the whole doc. into another
empty blank doc. the line number corruption goes away, but
then I loose all of my formatting and would have to go
through and put all of my custom styles back in.

Does anyone know where the mysterious 1.1.1.1 comes from?
I have no section number 1.1.1.1 either.

Thanks.

My guess would be that you have applied numbering to the Normal style (which
then affects every style based on Normal) and removed it manually from your
Normal (and other) paragraphs in the document.

FYI - I fixed this - must have been a defect - by updating
to Office 2003.
