How do I use numbering for a list of multi line items. Actually I want to
use this for a table of references. An example would be

1. Reference 1
   Author of Reference 1
   Location of Reference 1

2. Reference 2
   Location of Reference 2

When I apply numbering to such multi line items each line gets its own
number!

Bo

1. Use line breaks instead of paragraph breaks within each block, or

2. Use a List Continue style for the unnumbered lines.

In this situation, I'd be inclined to use (1).

Sorry

Shift-Enter does trick ;o)

For some reason the numbering button started to make the style in my list
Heading1 !!!How could that be?

You need to disable "Define styles based on my formatting." See

These things were already disabled. It simply seems that pressing the
'Numbering button' inserts Heading style!!! It must be something to do with
my templates! It I create a normal.dot based document this does not seem to
happen....

Hi Bo

The numbering button applies whatever numbering scheme is currently set as
the default (pane 1) in the Bullets & Numbering dialog tab. You can clear
that with a reset, but for any serious document you'd do better to use a
paragraph style for your numbered references. The built-in List Number style
would be a good starting point. You can add a button for that to your
toolbar.
