Appendix and numbering

I am trying to set up Appendix A with the page numbering to read A-1, etc.
I have read ShaunaKellys site on numbering and appendices but I can't get
the style for my Appendix (which will be Heading 7) to come out right.

I get AAppendix.  I tried to move the number right, left and center just to
see what happens, and I can't get my style to work.

I want it to read Appendix A.  A being the style.  Does this make sense?
Thanks for any help.

In my format numbering menu (for this style), the A is shaded.  Should I
type in Appendix in front of that?

In the "Number format" box, type Appendix (and a space) *before* the number
field.

I did try this and then the page numbering (A-1) goes away.  It reverts back
to 1.  "A" should be the style, correct? so that the page numbering can link
to it?

If you've used one of Word's built-in heading styles and selected that style
as the one to include, and the A is still shaded as a field in the "Number
format" box, then yes, the page number should be picking it up.

Thanks Suzanne.  That worked!  Whew!
