You will need to insert a bookmark at the end of each Section and (instead
of setting the page numbers for each Section to start at 1), leave them set
to be continuous and in Section 2 use the following field construction for
the page number where Section1 is the bookmark name assigned to the bookmark
at the end of Section 1
{ = { PAGE } - { PAGEREF Section1 }} of { SECTIONPAGES }
Similarly for the balance of the Sections in the document.

Doug:
Thank you very much. I found an old solution you had provided in May
2004, I believe. There, you had the "absolute" page number generated
using a formula, here, you use the a formula for the "Page X of Y"
portion. Well done, I'll try it. (If successful, I'll make a template
out of the structure so as to not give myself grief months/years from
now...)
Thanks so very much.
Regards,
Kevin

Hi Kevin
The key point to remember is that the TOC and other built-in references to
page numbers always use the number (and format) defined by the standard page
number field. So you always need to use {PAGE} for the referenced number
(changing format, start number etc. as necessary through the dialog) and the
calculated numbers for non-referenced page numbers.
