Line Numbers Have Unwanted Paragraph Numbers

My entire document has paragraphs numbered; they begin a new paragraph,
then skip a few spaces before the paragraph text begins.  Each page
also has lines numbered by fives.  The problem is that each line number
also has a paragraph number (always 0001) to the left of the line
number.  The line numbers are outside of the left margin, between body
text and page edge.  I cannot find a way in Styles Formatting to
suppress the paragraph number for the line numbers.

Tried to delete the Line Number style and start over, but still has the
paragraph number.

BTW:  I find I have this issue even if the body paragraphs are not
numbered, just line numbers.

If you have applied numbering to Normal style, then this will ripple down to
everything else, possibly including the Line Number style. See

Normal was not set for numbering, but to be sure I made sure it was
tagged "none".  Also, I have tried setting "line numbers" to be based
upon various other styles, with no effect.  Finally, note my earlier
comment that even if no paragraph numbering selected (body) the line
numbers still get [0001].  It is so far to the left that only 0] shows
up.

Hi Mike,

since the "line number" style is a character style, you shouldn't be able to
apply additional numbering to it anyway.

Could you mail me the doc, or some small sample? Might be some weird
corruption.

Cheers,
Klaus

As I wrote my previous post, I debated about that but didn't check to
confirm my suspicion that it's a character style.

Would be glad to send a sample, but this site doesn't provide a
complete email address.

Hmmmm.  I opened the problem file from another PC on the network, and
there is no problem!  Saved that version back into the original folder
/ file, and problem still there.  So, appears to be an issue with this
installation of Word, not with the file itself.  I'll try a 'repair'
installation of Word to see what that does.

Hi Mike,

If you want to send me the file:
klaus.linke@gmail.com or info@fotosatz-kaufmann.de

No results promised, but I started a small collection of corrupted docs, to
see what common problems are.

Klaus

Yep, was a Word installation problem.  I did a "repair Office"
installation and the issue went away.  Thanks for the help everyone.

This irritates me about Google, too.  But I just
discovered that if you click on the blue "..."
hyperlink in the email address, you can enter an
on-screen string which authorizes you to see the
complete email address.  If you do not see the
blue "..." hyperlink, click on Show Options.
