When I launch MS Word, even if I have nothing else open,
it starts at Document 4, or 18, or whatever. Sometimes it
starts with Document one, but not often. Does anyone know
why this happens, or how to stop it? I have Office XP on
my computer that is running Windows XP. I seem to
remember that this also happened as far back as Office
2000. The technical people that I have asked said they
think I should just stop using computers.

If anyone has insite into this problem, that would be
great. I don't think it effects anything else, it is just
weird.

This is usually caused by temp files being still open (see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/LockedFiles.htm and
http://www.gmayor.dsl.pipex.com/what_to_do_when_word_crashes.htm), but
rebooting Windows usually clears it.
