Tables and figures: Indexing 2 SEQ's in the same TOC

My research proposal contains two SEQ's, one for tables and the other
for figures. I would like to be able to either create a combined index
for both, or create a seperate index for each SEQ.

I typed the table and figure captions manually, but have formatted both
SEQ's using the same style.

When I insert a table of figures, I go to options and select the style
I used as the basis for creating the index.

When the index is created, it only lists the tables. The figures are
not included even though they are formatted with the same style.

Is this a hopeless case? I have read many posts in this NG about this
subject, but have not found any light!

This is not an index but a Table of Figures/List of Tables, which is a form
of TOC. Instead of using the Table of Figures tab in Insert | Reference |
Index and Tables, use the Table of Contents tab and base the TOC on the
Caption style (or whatever other style was used).

That is exactly what I did. I inserted table of figures, based the TOC
on a given style. I could either get all of one SEQ, but not both!

You're not listening. A Table of Figures can be based on only one style, but
a Table of Contents (which is what I suggested you use) can be based on
multiple styles. If all the captions (regardless of label) are in the same
paragraph style (Caption), then selecting that style (through the TOF
Options dialog) should work in the TOF provided you choose "(none)" for the
label.
