Numbering Quandry

I have a large document that for editing purposes, I had divided into 3
separate documents.  I used 4 styles to do the legal numbering (1, 1.1, etc)

Each of the documents had one first level, with the rest of the document
being the lower numbers.

After cleaning up the 3 files, I reincorporated them into one by using the
insert file.

My first level works fine, but my lower levels just continue on, without
changing after the 1st level numbering.

They styles were copied to the new files using the organizer, so all the
style names are identical in name and properties.

Any suggestions?

Reapply the numbering to the styles according to the instructions at
