"Previous Level Number" stops working at level 7

I used the instructions at:
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html to create a
numbering style to my liking using Heading 1-9.  I wanted it set up so that
the levels would be something like:
I.
 A.
    1.
    2.
       a.
         (1)
         (2)
              2.1
              2.2
                   2.2.1    - this is level 7

However, level 7 items, rather than being numbered "2.2.1." are number "1".
In the number dialog, when I try to choose "Previous Level Number" to be
"Level 6" in the drop-down, level 6 is not chosen.  When I do OK and then
come back to the dialog, "Level 2" is chosen.  It looks like the template
has some corrupted data   in it now, and I don't know how to get it correct.

Any sugegstions would be welcome,
Thanks,
Larry

I  found a way to get this to work.  (It oculd be this is a work-around, or
it might be the way I should have done it all along.)

When designing my level 7, I did the following steps:
1. Chose Level 7
2. Erased text field "Number format", making "Number Style" <none>
3. Chose "Previous level number" 5, causing the greyed "1" to show up in the
"Number Format" field
4. Placing cursor at the end of the "Number Format" field I typed ".",
leaving the cursor at the end
5. Chose "Previous level number" 6, causing the greyed "1.1" to show up in
the "Number Format" field
6. Placing cursor at the end of the "Number Format" field I typed ".",
leaving the cursor at the end
7. Chose "Number Style" <1,2,3>, causing the greyed "1.1.1" to show up in
the "Number Format" field
8. Placing cursor at the end of the "Number Format" field I typed "."
9. OK...

I hope this helps someone out there!
