Bullets and numbers

All I want is to create a document that will have a structure like this:

1. ......
a) ......
*......
*.......
b)

c)
2.
When I go to the next line I can't say use prev. list for numbering.
Can someone help, please?

Why can't I just type and when I go to the next line I say continue from the
prev. list?

If you want to have reliable outline numbering, you need to set up an
outline-numbered list according to the "rules" MS has established.
