If I wanted to tweak a style in Word 2003 (let's say a numbered heading for
example), I would open the Style and Formatting window, choose the heading,
and click on Modify, then click on Format and finally choose what I wanted to
tweak. If I wanted to change the numbering format I would then choose
Numbering. Then I would click on "Customize". Then I can easily make the
minor formatting changes that I want.

In Word 2007, it works the same way up until you click on that last
Numbering choice...there is no "Customize". All you can do is choose from a
library or "Define New Number Format". But I just want to, for example,
remove the ending "." (period) from the heading number. I don't see where I
can do that without affecting all the other formatting by defining a new
number format.

I have been trying the "Define New Number Format" but it's messing with the
sequential numbering of my headings...which is another problem in itself. I
have also tried using one from the library but it changes many formatting
settings as well. I just want to change one little thing...is that too much
to ask ;-)

I'm wondering if there is a "Customize" function in Word 2007 that works the
same as Word 2003.

My work-around is to use a PC with Word 2003 to tweak the numbering format
and then go back to my Word 2007 PC to continue editing. Not very
elegant...but it works.

Any suggestions?
