How to number chapters automatically

I'm trying to make chapters and subchapters in the way:

1. Chapter.
1.1 Subchapter.
1.2 Subchapter.
2. Chapter
2.1 Subchapter
2.1.1 Subsubchapter
3.0 Chapter

..

I'm using Heading 1 and Heading 2 (etc) styles respectively. How may I make
Word automatically create these numbers?

That will, of course, also form part of the toc that i have no problems in
creating.

I'm using Office 2007 and will have to write large, technical documentation
reports on a regular basis.

The general principles are described in
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html. The
implementation will be a bit different in Word 2007, but the basic
functionality is the same.

The major change was that the numbering process should not take place where
you usually change styles, but through selecting the multilevel button in
the Home ribbon and then then change the settings in the "New Tabulation in
Several Levels". Here you can change all the Headings styles when coming to
numbering level and the kind.

But now it works. Thank you.
