Tab and Indent Settings Keep Changing

I'm setting up an outline style in a document and as I format subsequent
outline levels, the tab and indent settings for previous levels move to the
left, off the page.  I've spent hours resetting tab/indent levels only to
have them revert to settings in the left margin and beyond.

What's going on here?

Make sure to specify the indentation in the numbering options, not in
the Paragraph dialog box. See
