Well, I could tell you that Insert | Page Numbers is not recommended (it is
preferable to use the Insert Page Number button on the Header and Footer
toolbar to put the page number directly in the footer instead of in a
frame), but there are times when access to the dialog is helpful, so see

Suzanne and Herb,
Thanks for the quick response. I followed Suzanne's suggestion and easily
restored the functionality that was lost. Now, the "Insert pages" command is
right there for me. Again, thanks so much for your assistance.

I haven't used the Mac version... however, when page-oriented features are
missing, my first guess is that the document is displayed in web view.
