Read and tried to implement the instructions in
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html.

However, Word 2007 functions differently.
Can't find the Outline Numbered Tab as mentioned under 2.
I am not able to set the numbering as under Customize Outline Numbered list
for all the headings.

Anyone found out how to auto-number headings in Word 2007?

On ribbon
Home Paragraph group it is the Multilevel List you select (3rd icon from
left top row in paragraph group).  Define New Multilevel List (even you have
one already).

Hope this helps.

In the 'List Library' section of the dropdown you will find a predefined list
that looks something like:

1. Heading 1
1.1 Heading 2
1.1.1 Heading 3

If you select this then you should get auto-numbered headings. Make sure the
cursor is somewhere in the first level 1 heading of the document.
