How do you display number of ages in a section

On a two section document I used Words menus to insert page numbers in
the header:

Section 1
Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}

Section 2
Page {PAGE} of {NUMPAGES}

I was surprised that NUMPAGES was the total number of pages and not
the pages in each section.  Even setting the second section start page
to 1 did not help.

I read all about field codes and understood that PAGEREF should give
the number of pages in each section, but it gave the same results as
NUMPAGES (all the pages in doc).

I know I can use formulas to manipulate the numbering any way I like,
but it seems like there should be an easier way to do such a common
thing.

Thanks

Have you tried:
Page {section} of {sectionPAGES}

Sorry, that should be:
Page {page} of {sectionpages}
Where "page" restarts numbering for the section (under Page format numbering).
