Hi everyone,

I'm trying to figure out how to do something that I can easily do in
Adobe Framemaker. Basically, I want to have table/figure numbering
that has both the chapter (level 1) number and a standalone table/
figure number. For example:

In Chapter 2 (Heading 1 is at 2), I want to have the tables to number
as Table 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, etc. When I get to chapter 3 (Heading 1 at 3),
I want the numbering to reset at Table 3-1, 3-2, 3-3, etc.

I've got my outline numbering configured the way I want it but I'm not
sure how to establish an independent list that resets itself everytime
I enter into a new chapter in teh same doc. Is this possible in Word?

Thanks!

Mike

This is close, but unless I'm missing something, this isn't quite what
I'm looking for. This includes chapter numbering on the page number;
I'm looking to have the chapter number be part of an independent list
for tables and figures.

So, say we're in chapter 2 and on page 8, there's the third table in
the chapter. I want to be able to number the table in the caption
Table 2-3 where 2 is dependent on the chapter and 3 is an independent
number list for that paragraph style that resets every new chapter. Is
this possible in a single document?

Thanks!

When you create the caption, there is an option to "Include chapter number."
This works on the same principle as including the chapter number in the page
number.
