Combining templates

Word 2003

I have three templates which I would like to combine somehow into one.

The problem I have is that, although Heading 1 is much the same, i.e.
Heading 1 in each template is Outline numbered as 1:00, 2:00 and 3:00 and
Heading 2 is the same: 1:01, 2:01 and 3:01,

from Heading 3 onwards, the styles are cutomized differently for each
template:

e.g. Heading 3 in Templates 1 and 2 is indented and numbered 1., 2., 3. etc
Heading 3 in Template 3 is numbered 01, 02, 03, etc

The headers and footers vary somewhat too.

Would it be possible (and/or time-consuming) to somehow make one template?

First you have to ask why you want to combine the templates? If they are
intended for different types of documents, it makes more sense not to
combine them.

Obviously, if do decide to combine the templates, you must use a different
set of styles for each numbering scheme. The following article explains how
to set up numbering in Word:
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html.

To have different headers (different footers) within the same template, you
will have to insert section breaks, and then unlink the sections whose
headers (footers) should be different. For more on headers and footers, see
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm.

I would like to combine them as I need the page numbers to run right through
all the documentd - even if amendments are made to individual documents. I
have read in this newsgroup that it is better to make one template.
