Hi, me again... First of all, is this a real Word Numbering or a Word Tables question? I'm thinking it's numbering, since it's a more automated problem, and not a generic Word table problem. For some reason, I'm generating a heading for Table of Contents (shows up as ToC 1) IN the Table of Contents! How do I get rid of it? Thanks! Mark H. I highlighted the whole ToC, right-clicked, chose Edit field, then chose the Table of Contents/ToC, and then the Modify button. But then it shows in the Styles field, TOC 1. Is that where I remoive the '1'? If so, how come another document is working CORRECTLY w/ that same setting? Or you can remove it from the style directly by using Format | Style. Find Title, then Modify, Format | Paragraph and set the outline level to Body Text. Or, as I think I have suggested before, do this in the TOC head itself: right-click and choose Paragraph and change the outline level. There's a box there, saying "Outline levels", which is unchecked. Doesn't seem to be an ass'n w/ any of the "available styles" listed, and no indication of Body Text. I went to your link (thx!), and revisited how to CREATE a ToC, but it gives no indication how to add the title to it! (I regenerated it using Insert/etc...) Sorry we're going round and round w/ this, but we seem to have a failure to communicate! I think what I'm gonna do is what i often do (that usually works): copy a ToC which is BEHAVING over the area that's not, and then re-format/re-generate. Mark > No, don't click Modify, click Options. But your 2nd way to do this here, I have already verified: I went to 'Paragraph' on the Title, and it already showed Body Text. I'm thinking this is some glitch/bug... Until I get time to REALLY (and correctly) fix this, however, I just "cheated." I did a "Clear Formatting" style on the Title, and re-formatted it to LOOK like a Title (altho it no longer is), and re-genned the ToC. I faked it out and it works fine! (looks that way, anyway...) The reason that just changing the outline level in the paragraph won't work, I now realize, is that, once you've actually generated the TOC, the Title style is marked as outline level 1 in the TOC Options, so just changing the outline level on the paragraph itself won't help; it would have to be changed in the style and the TOC regenerated.
