One way is to customize the number alignment and change if from the defualt
"left" to "right."
This will result in a layout like this:
1. xxx
10. xxx
100. xxx
If you are numbering you might as well get started off on the right foot.

Although setting the number alignment to "right" is the correct approach
(numbers should align on the period), if you leave it set to left, you just
need a larger indent and tab space after to accommodate the longer numbers.
