Thanks for all the responses. I am running Word 2000, not
2002 but did the SR-1 update several months ago. I'll try
that again and will check out the link you left. The
other issue is that I can't print from Print Preview
because these templates (with fields & macros) run in the
background to a database I'm working on. The application
sends data to the Word templates which propagates that
data into the fields and prints the document. Hence,
those operations are done without the end user seeing
Word, hence I can't put it into Print Preview.
Personally, I'm quite surprised that something as easy as
this problem isn't fixed or doesn't offer an update that
works. Okay, maybe I'm not surprised.... :-(
Thanks again for taking the time to respond and for your
assistance.

I would be inclined to suspect the third-party application of causing the
problem.

**Copy of post I made in a similar thread above....**
I too have started seeing this problem on many of my user's PC, including my
own. All the problems I have seen are in Office XP. It seems that my
computers that I have not applied the latest batch of Office updates to do
not experience this problem. I tried updating two of them with all the
latest patches, and two started having the problem, and one did not.
Unfortunately, there is no way to remove the patches that I know of.
I also tried reinstalling office XP on my computer (at the MS tech's
request), and now that it is reinstalled and repatched, it does not seem to
have this problem anymore. That still doesn't explain why these latest
patches are breaking the page numbering on so many computers.
Maybe if we raise enough stink about it, MS will respond... =)

I tried #2 in the referenced document, and my document got
screwed up with "Update Fields"checked. Therefore, I'm now
gun-shy about these workarounds for Word 2002. I'll try
some more, but at least printing from the "Print Preview"
screen doesn't mess things up. There has to be a better
way!
