MS Office Forum / Word / Numbering / December 2003Word 2002 fails to update NUMPAGES correctly on printing
Since loading (some) Office XP patches and hotfixes, multipage documents will no longer correctly print NUMPAGES. E.G. in a 147 page document with 2 sections and a different first page header in section 1, on screen shows Page 1 of 147. Both with and without the 'Update fields on print' option set, asking for One page may give page 1 of 147, but asking for all pages or a multiple gives Page 1 of 1, Page 2 of 2 etc. I suspect a hotfix post SP-2 dated July 27th 2003 but cannot find anything other than KB 823961 describing it. I would like to know if it is the problem and how I may remove it. Otherwise, can anyone help? This is a common problem being experience by a significant amount of people. I have contacted microsoft, and so has one of the MVPs for this newsgroup. They told me to reinstall Office XP to fix the problem, which may or may not work for you. It did seem to work on the one machine I've tried it on so far. The microsoft tech is supposedly trying to escalate the issue, but I'll have to wait and see if they follow up with me. In the meantime, please see various posts from last week for more information.
