To create a TOC, we use styles which includes auto
numbering.  In Word '97, we used a heading style for the
actual text we would like to appear in the TOC and we
placed a hidden return at the end of the heading.  We used
a normal style for the additional text of the paragraph.
When you printed the heading and additional text appeared
as one paragraph.  Now that we've converted to Word 2002,
we lose our auto numbering within the TOC when it is
generated.  Any suggestions?

Word 2002 provides another way of creating run-in sideheads, using a Style
Separator. Instead of using the hidden paragraph mark. Just type the entire
paragraph as a single paragraph, then select the part you want to be a
heading and apply the heading style. It will be applied as a quasi-character
style, but it will be picked up by the TOC.
