I have some end users who are using field codes to do page
numbering within sectins of a document.  This method works
really well in producing the page numbers in the location
and format that they require however when they go to print
say page 18-25 of the document, I believe Word is pringing
every section page 1-25.  Is there any way to really just
print the desired pages, given the custom numbering within
the header?

You have to include the section number. See Word's Help for "Printing
specific pages and sections" under "Print a document."
