cross-reference to paragraph numbering

I use cross-references to paragraph numbers a lot.  I am
constantly annoyed by how that every time I insert a
cross-reference, the text in document I am writing is
automatically scrolled so that the cursor is located at
the top of the window.  Is that supposed to happen?  Why
would anyone want that to occurr?  How does one go about
turning that feature off?

G'day "pehr" <pehr@alumni.utexas.net>,

Have a stiff drink and learn to live with it.

I actually figured out one sorta workaround.  To do my
edits in read-mode.  However, the documents I use have
lots of different formatting styles, so it is convenient
to also have the styles window up.  Oh well ... can't
have everything - guess I'll go pour me that stiff drink
you recommend.

Also, complain to mswish@microsoft.com.  You aren't the only one who hates
that behavior, maybe if they get enough complaints someday it will change.

What does "read-mode" mean?  I could use a workaround for that issue.

Reading Layout view is new in Word 2003. It's a booklike layout that makes
text very readable but doesn't attempt to replicate the page formatting of
the document (which can be a problem with tables, wrapped graphics, etc.).

G'day "Pehr" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com>,

Drag your styles onto toolbars with buttons so you can still apply
them when other modes are active.
