I am using software ENDNOTE 5 for references in Word 2000.
I select some reference in endnote file (extension .enl)
and come to Word, and in the Endnote toolbar,
click "Insert selected citation". After doing this for
all references, I get a numbered bibliography at the end
of doc. I click "Format Bibliography" in word on Endnote
toolbar, and choose 'Numbered' style from there. This
gives me cross-references in the document in the format
[1], [2] etc which I need, but I still get the
bibliography at the end which is numbered 1., 2. and not
like [1], [2] etc.
Please let me know how to get this.
The other problem is that after doing all the above, if I
do : (1)select all (ctrl+A), (2)F9, which I normally do
to update fields for my figures etc, the bibliography
list reduces to a single line saying "EN.REFLIST", I
tried to toggle the field codes after this among other
things, but it still remains the same, except when I try
Ctrl+Z.
Please help me out.
Thanks

Hi vijay,
I think you can set a different Bibliographic style in Endnote itself and
find a format that is already set to number entries as you want. Search
bibliographic style in Endnote Help. Word isn't picking that formatting.
Re your second question, while Endnote inserts a field, Word is not capable
of updating it. I believe you have to unformat and reformat for Endnote to
update the fields. However, on a Mac using EN 5, I'm not seeing the same
behavior when I update fields, and when I toggle codes on the EN generated
bibliography, I see { ADDIN EN.REFLIST}.
