Help please! My 50 page doc goes from numbering pages 1 to
21, then page 13, 14, etc. (There is a continuous section
break before a column change.)

THEN, when I gave up trying to fix that I changed header
data on the first page, and that page number changed
from "one" to "13", etc.

What is going on?

Go to the first section where the numbering is messed up and click o
the "format numbering" button on the header/footer toolbar. Make sur
there is a check in front of "continue from previous section."

I've had this problem before, and usually that fixes it, but section
are strange creatures sometimes, especially when combined wit
headers/footers

I finally solved my problem. It took 2 days before my
techie son had me save the doc in Rich Text Format. It
erased all of my footers, and messed up the graphic
figures, and of course, needed reformatting on columns and
breaks, but that was a small price to pay...my page
numbers finally worked!

I saved the RTF back into Word, and rebuilt the
formatting. But I had a perfectly clean document again. I
finished it yesterday, without one MS Word glich. Hooray!
Wish I had simply started over in the beginning, instead
of wasting so much time.

You could have accomplished the same thing by deleting all the section
breaks and reinserting them.
