I normally select Format, Bullets and Numbering, click on
the Outline Numbered tab, select a list style, click OK.
This gives a 1) I type text and press ENTER. To move to
the right and change the level to a) I normally press
TAB. This is not working. TAB does not demote the level
and SHIFT + TAB does not promote the level. It used to.
Can you tell me what setting may have been changed to
disable the use of my keyboard to control the levels.
Thank you ~ Jean

Suppose your paragraphs are formatted to have a right-aligned tab. You
probably know that if you set a tab like that, all the other tabs in between
are auto-wiped. So, make sure your text has the .5" default tab settings?
Just a thought.

Hope this helps!

Word 2000 and earlier: Tools | Options | Edit: check the box for "Tabs and
backspace set left indent."
Word 2002 and above: Tools | AutoCorrect Options | AutoFormat As You Type:
check the box for "Set first- and left-indent with tabs and backspaces."
