I tested the 2007 Microsoft Office Beta through at least three incarnations
and was satisfied with the product.
Today I decided to make it legal--ordered it and am making due with the
trial version. However, I'm using the Home and Student Trial (and this is
what I ordered too); this is in my price range and I felt sure it would meet
my needs as a writer/homeschooling mother of four/Youth Program Associate for
UME.
I am not impressed yet. Every time I open a Word Document I get "Word cannot
open this document template Building Blocks.docx" and it won't let me insert
page numbers. That last one is a big deal for a woman who regularly deals
in 25 to 400 pg manuscripts. When I follow help's suggestion of opening up
Word Options it doesn't even show the option it says to enable.
So I turned to product support--entered the product ID number several times
(which I really had to hunt for) and was told every time that it was
incorrect. I assume this is because I'm using a beta, but this really isn't
cool and if they want to keep most customers past the beta stage, they should
offer this option to them too.
To be direct, I make part of my living as a writer and I occasionally write
grants for work at home. I need affordable software that will do the job
without adding headaches to my already complicated life.
What am I missing?

How about just asking a question about the problem you're having? Most
likely someone can answer it. There have been a lot of questions (and
answers) about page numbers in Word 2007. What we can't do here is run
interference between you and MS; until you have the paid-for version
installed, I don't imagine you're going to have a valid product key.

Thank you very much for your reply Macropod. I'll give it a whirl.

Hi M,
The downloadable version of Microsoft Office System 2007 Beta 2 expired on 1 February 2007. After that, MS says the Beta will
continue to work, but in a reduced functionality mode that limits your options and operations. I suspect you're encountering those
reductions. As a temporary workaround, you could re-set your system clock to a date before 1 February 2007.
Cheers
