Hi
not sure what I've done, but all my autotext options have vanished from the
footer options

eg: file name / path

etc

how do I get them all back?

thanks

The usual reason for this is that you have saved a document as Normal.dot.

Hi Suzanne

Yes I did save a document as the normal.dot, so that all my margins fonts
etc, are as I need them.

I am still not sure how I get the autotext options back?
Can I copy them from another computer?

thanks for your assistance

You cannot create Normal.dot. Only Word can do that. You need to rename your
self-created Normal.dot and let Word build another one. Then follow the
instructions at
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm to
customize it.

Hi again

I've printed out both help files from below, and they are helpful - thanks

I am trying to rename/delete normal.dot, so I can restart word and modify
the new normal.dot properly!

I've closed all word docs and located the template via windows explorer, but
it won't let me rename or delete the file.
I keep getting this message:

Cannot delete Normal: There has been a sharing violation.
The source or destination file may be in use.

any suggestions?
thanks again

You must Exit Word.

Hi Doug & Suzanne

Word was closed completely, just tried again this morning and it wouldn't
work. Then my brain clicked in, Outlook uses word to compile emails, once I
shut Outlook, the normal.dot deleted.

so I've gone in the correct way and fixed the default font, default
language, etc

thanks
again

Right, I don't use Outlook for email, much less use Word as my email editor,
so I keep forgetting about that.
