Does anyone know how you can make numbered or numbered and lettered outlines
1.  hflhd
   a.  hdflhdl
2. jdlfj
    a. fjdlj
        1. dfjldjf

etc that can be expaned and collapsed like the formattin in directory lists
with a plus and a minus.

I can get it to do so using the View, outline (format), but it won't seem to
accept an outline format like above.  It either is blank with no numering or
lettering or permits me to assign serial numbers even to the indents so it
looks like this:

1. ldjfld
    2. jfldkflf
3.  dlfjljf
    4. ffjlfl
          5. djfdjf
6. jfjsj

which looks pretty pathetic on a large outline !

I'd like to be able to expand or collapse the levels under a given level.
So I can see a list with the major headings or one with all (or part) of the
detail in the subheadings.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

To get the numbering you want in Outline view, you need to be using outline
numbering to begin with; see
