getting rid of lines in background of document

how to get rid of lines meant for signatures.
This was a doc I copied and modified.  
These lines were already there.

Most likely, it's border formatting. If this is Word 2003 or earlier, click
where the lines occur, choose Format - Borders and Shading - Borders tab,
and None.
