I have a page I am trying to set up with columns using Word 2003.
I have it set to 8 columns spaced .3.
When I type the first column it seems to work fine. Then it jumps to the
2nd column before I finish. If I tab it jumps to the 3rd column. If I
start typing (even though it is in the 2nd column with the positioning
controls on the 2nd column), it starts typing in the 1st column for a couple
characters. Even if I type only 2 letters in the 1st column and hit a tab
(where it goes to the 2nd column as it should) as soon as I start typing, it
goes back to the 1st column and continue where it left off.
How do I fix this?
Thanks,
Tom

Are you using a table (in which a tab would take you to the next cell) or
snaking columns? If the latter, a tab that takes you into the next column is
positioned beyond the right margin of the column and is a recipe for
trouble. There is no (correct) way to use tabs to jump from one
newspaper-style column to the next. It sounds to me as if perhaps what you
are wanting is a table.
