MS Office Forum / Word / Page Layout / November 2007Word 20" x 22" page layout
I created a 20" x 22" custom page size layout which will not display in print preview or print correctly. Then, instead of selecting "ignore margins," I selected "fix margins." Margins of 11" and 5.75" appeared, suggesting that Word simply cannot do that size. (Depending on your printer, you can often "ignore margins" and come out just fine.) I am using an HP DesignJet 130. What is the maximum page width and length that Word can handle? Why does Word allow you to enter 20" x 22" custom size if it can't be done? Where can specifications be found to look up things like this to save time? Thanks. Word will only print what the printer driver will allow (up to a maximum size of 22" x 22"). Many printer drivers are poor with custom paper sizes. Your driver *may* allow you to define paper sizes, otherwise you are stuck with the standard sizes that it offers. We regularly print 24" x 36" AutoCAD drawings on the same printer. It appeared that 11" x 17" was the largest size that didn't begin to have problems. Some drivers are simply poor when handling custom paper sizes. If your driver is incapable of allowing paper sizes to be defined, then you will be limited to printing on standard sized pages pre-defined in the driver. Do you know of any printer that has successfully printed a 20" x 22" Word file? HP support may be able to help, but past experience suggests that they will deny all knowledge and blame Microsoft ;) If you have access to InDesign that may be a better plan for this document.
