How do I change the font in line numbering?

I'm writing a text that has to have line numbers for each line of a selected
part of the text (conversation analysis for a Linguistics essay, since you
ask).

I've managed to number each line of the selected text, but the numbering is
in Times New Roman, and the rest of my text is in Arial. It's not a huge
problem, but I'd like to have everything in the document in Arial, and the
line numbering is the only bit that is still in Times New Roman.

Any suggestions?

Modify the Line Number character style so that its font is Arial.

Note, however, that if the font of the Normal style has been changed to
Arial, the line numbers should be Arial already.

Good point. It seems as if the Normal style hasn't been correctly modified
(or, less likely, as if the font of the Line Number style has been modified
previously).

My guess is that the OP just selected the entire document and changed the
font without modifying any styles (most likely all Normal with direct
formatting <g>).

I suspect that you are right.

Confirmed by the OP's reply: "I very rarely need to do anything this
'complex' in Word, so I keep forgetting about styles etc."

Thanks, that was it!

For anyone else with the same problem: go to Format -> Styles and formatting
->
Line number

(took me a while to figure that out, I very rarely need to do anything this
'complex' in Word, so I keep forgetting about styles etc... Can you tell I
don't spend a lot of time with computers...?)

Thanks again!
