There is no single format for books; there are many, and which you choose
depends on what sort of book you intend to write.

Further, if you plan to submit your work to commercial publishers, most of them
don't want you to do any kind of formatting except that which they specify.
Contact a few of them and ask for their manuscript guidelines.
