Is there any easy way to make an outline in word 2003?
Seems like such a hassle to go in , change headers for each level, etc
etc.

Isn't there a default template?

You can quickly and easily create a multi-level outline using keyboard shortcuts. You
needn't "go in" anywhere, and you never have to apply a heading style.

Before you begin, make sure that your heading styles are defined to your liking with
regard to font, numbering, and the like, then...

When you open a new document, you're positioned in a normal paragraph.
1. Press Shift+Alt+left cursor arrow. The paragraph changes from normal to heading 1.
Type your text and press Enter. Depending on how your style is set up, the next para is probably Normal.
2. To create a heading 2 paragraph, press Shift+Alt+right cursor arrow, type your text, press Enter.
3. Continue in this manner using
Shift+Alt+left cursor arrow to go up a level or stay at the same level
Shift+Alt+right cursor arrow to go down a level
HTH!

This assumes, however, that you already have your headings set up, and if
those headings are to be outline-numbered, they will need to be set up
according to the instructions at
http://www.shaunakelly.com/word/numbering/OutlineNumbering.html, or sooner
or later the numbering will break.
