Getting rid of...

Hi I need help with my microsoft layout, When my microsoft appers at start(when i open it) all you see on the page is a symbol thats looks like this....IP the paragraphing symbol. How do I get rid of it? If you figure i out please post it i would really like to get rid of it. Thanks Katie.

It's doing no harm--it is simply showing you formatting marks, aka
nonprinting characters, and at times can be very useful.  See here for more
info:

If you click the ¶ on the standard toolbar, the symbol should go away. If it
doesn't, check under Tools | Options, View tab to see what is checked under
NonPrinting Characters.
