restting of number of pages field in footer

We have issue in having the page numebring like 1/20 like page number
number of pages.
Could it be problem if we use a template docuemtn .dot file whihc wa
originaly craeted in word 97. And use the same in word XP.
The real problem is the number of pages field gets reset after som
numebr of pages like 15/1, 16/1, 17/1 ... 21/1 but it should be 15/21
16/21/
Actually this is being doen using VB programatically
