I get an e-mailed Word document on a weekly basis. It is
a tabular form. When I try to print it this message comes
up: "The margins of section 1 are set outside the
printable area of the page. Do you want to continue?"

Thing is, they are not. The document is just fine as it
appears on the screen (and two other documents from the
same source with the same format and margins prints just
fine with no such alert message).

If I say "yes", it cuts off the top two lines and puts
the third line at the extreme top of the sheet. (Top
margin setting is 2 picas, so effectively it loses four
lines).

As a workaround, I just push the top of the document down
four lines, but if it is a full page then I lose the
bottom of the sheet.

None of the (very obvious) items undeer the "help" button
apply. This same situation existed last year on the same
document but with a different computer on my end. The
same message appears when I try a different printer. It
is an error inherent in the document.

How do I repair the document so it prints exactly as it
appears on the screen?

Hi,

Sounds like you are using a HP printer. I get the same problem. It was
answered here once as follows:

There is a known conflict between Word 2002 and the HP
drivers for some LaserJets that is characterized by the 2.67" margin.
The "margin fix" drivers at http://www.hp.com/pond/ljbeta/index.html
reportedly solve the problem (and are available for the LJ 4000).

I haven't tried this myself yet but I have heard that the drivers are
the issue.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Mike

Nope, not an HP, but your reply gave me cause to try the
document on two other printers. Yes, it may be printer-
specific.

The problem is on a Panasonic KX-P2130 (dot matrix, which
I use for most of my printing needs).

I tested on my Epson Stylus 600 (which I use only when I
need color) and my wife's Epson Stylus CX6400. The 600
generated the same error message but the printout was
just fine. The CX6400 printed the page with no error
message.

(I do a LOT of black-and-white printing; ribbons are
cheaper than ink cartridges).

Even if I change margins in the page setup, it still cuts
off the top four lines, it just starts printing lower
down on the page. The oddity is that I get three
documents every week from the same source using the same
format, but only one of the three exhibits the problem.
The other two print just fine. I still think there is
something in the page formatting that causes the problem.
Ideally I'd like to know what to change in the formatting
that would fix it. However, this may be a Panasonic
problem and not a Word problem so if you know a Panasonic
link that would be a place to ask, that would be welcome.
