I have a Word document and am merging addresses into it. When I do
the merge, "page 1" appears in the header of every one of the 200
pages, though I can't for the life of me find it in a default setting
or in the header of the original Word document. Help would be
appreciated.

Merge doesn't add information in a merge that wasn't in the merge source
document - use ALT+F9 to check for calculated fields in the header that may
not be displayed. As a merge will only have 1 page (the individual 'pages'
are sections) then a {Page} field would place 1 in the header.

OK, in the main unmerged Word document, when I click on "VIEW" then on
"Headers and Footers" there is a space that appears; it is empty; it
does not say "Page" anyplace; but that's the space where "page 1"
appears in subsequent pages after I merge them.
I clicked on ALT-F9 which brings up Wordperfect help, but it is just a
generic help menu, I do not see that it brings up any codes, I do not
see where "page" is mentioned anyplace. What do I do after clicking
on ALT-F9?
Thanks for your assistance

If Alt+F9 brings up WordPerfect Help, then you need to go to the General tab
of Tools | Options and clear the check boxes for both items that refer to
Word Perfect.

I should have added, that when the empty dotted-line area appears when
I click on "View - Headers and Footers" I do not see a method for how
to delete it.
