Letterhead

I received a letterhead file (Word doc) that I would like to use in a doc
that I am creating.  How can I use this letterhead page for the first page
of my doc only.  If I enter text on page 1, then enter down to the next
page, the next page also has the letterhead.  I would like every page after
page 1 to be plain, i.e. no letterhead.

Thanks.

File => Page Setup => Layout (tab)

Click on "Different first page."

The Letterheads are generally setup as a header. I would
suggest moving to he second page then click the view-
header and footer. This should give you a header footer
toolbar. Edit the Header (size and shape) to your liking
and/or delete the  letterhead. Using the page setup button
on the header footer toolbar go to the layout tab of the
page setup window. Choose the Apply to: "This point
forward". This will set your document to use THIS header
from the second page on. Now only the first page of your
document will have the letterhead.
The best way to utilize your new document is to setup the
document as a template by choosing document template in
the "save as type" field at the bottom of the "save as"
window. Do this before you enter any unique writing and
you have yourself a letter setup the way you want it every
time. I hope this helps. Good Luck.

I tried the Header and Footer option, but it will not work.  Nothing comes
up in those areas.  It's almost like it is an image over the whole
background of the page.  When I go to the second page, it automatically uses
this image there too.  I need to be able to make all other pages plain
white.

Thanks

That's not exactly what I am looking for.  I'll explain further:

I was given a .doc file that I would like to use for a cover page for a doc
I am creating.  The file that I was given is like a graphic except that I
can type on it and it is a .doc file.  There is a picture which is the whole
background of this doc and there is also a logo and text.  None of this is
stored in the header or footer section of the file.

I can open this file and type in it, then save it.  That's no problem.  What
I would like to be able to do is type on this page but just have this page
with the images and text on it, and have all other pages plain white.

Right now I can create 2 separate docs - open the file and create my cover
page on this doc, then open a blank Word doc and type the rest of my info in
that, but I would like to have it all in the one doc.  Is there a way that I
can do this?

Thanks again!

Look at the page Suzanne referred you to. It has the answers you are
seeking. The picture gets put into the first page header marked as being
behind text. It is in the header even if it fills the entire page.

Thanks.  Got it figured out.  I didn't realize that b/c the image was on the
whole background that it was still considered a header.  When I selected
Different First Page from File - Page Layout and then deleted the header on
the second page, it worked perfectly.

Thanks again!
